Places that have shaped me

Exchange Year!

In 2014-2015, I embarked on a transformative journey as an exchange student in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where I was hosted by a wonderful family with universal love. I was a sophomore at Milwaukee School of Languages where I played in the junior varsity soccer and tennis team. This year was truly unforgettable, as it opened my eyes to diverse perspectives and introduced me to incredible people who left a lasting impact on my life.

My Hometown!

Shenzhen is a young and vibrant city located in the southeast side of China. I was born and raised there, and it has always been my top 1 city even after I travelled to and stayed in tens of other places. I'm definitely biased, coz my roots, my favorite people, and my best memories are there.

Freshman Year!

NYU allows students to study away from their home campus for at most 2 years during their undergrad studies. In 2017-2018, I decided to start my undergrad journey at NYU Florence. Immersed in the heart of the Renaissance, I delved into the realms of humanities, aesthetics, and philosophy. This experience broadened my view and deepened my understanding of these subjects that undoubtedly shape my academic and personal growth.

College Life!

You can never stop exploring New York City! For me, I was adventuring (could be good or bad) every day in New York. When I look back on the years I spent in the city, I couldn't find a single image that can represent the place; instead, a bunch of random stuff popped up: Kimmel Center, Silver, WWH, the restaurants, the cafes (Starbucks across Tisch Hall, Think Cafe across Courant, and Le Colombe on 400 Lafayette, to name a few), the museums, the subway (an example of a bad adventure), the people (a mixture of good and bad), the parks, the Christmas markets, and the random shops on the street all together have made up my memory in New York.

New Home!

I would say Shenzhen and Singapore are very similar in a lot of senses: the MRT, the CBD area, the trees, the coastal line, the weather, and the humidity all remind me of my hometown. When my parents asked me how it is like to live in Singapore, I told them to imagine a version of Shenzhen that's always in summer. But Singapore has its own unique appeal that draws me to stay longer. Its efficiency, diversity, inclusion, and sense of being grounded have made it an ideal place for young people.

I enjoy talking and working with people. A large portion of my energy comes from staying with people who I found having shared values. My MBTI has changed a bit since my first time doing the test 5 years ago. Here is the evolution: ESTJ -> ESFJ -> ENFJ.

Soccer

I used to play soccer in high school (center back position). But it's hard to form a team of 11 people, so I only watch professional games after high school. I usually watch Premier League and LaLiga, and my favourite teams are Manchester City and FC Barcelona.

Taekwondo

I got my black belt when I was 16. Story behind: my mom was trying to enrol me into a ballet class when I was a kid, but I was attracted by Taekwondo class next door (can't imagine myself doing ballet). She always says this decision has made me a tomboy instead of a lady LMAO.

Musical

I'm a big fan of musicals! My favourite shows so far have been Dear Evan Hansen and Rent!!! They both have movie versions as well. Please check them out if you haven't.

I just watched Hamilton four times in Singapore this May, and it's appended to my favourite show list. I'll definitely watch it a fifth time on Broadway.

Debate

I used to do public forum debate and had participated in multiple tournaments. My best ranks were quarter finalist in Guangdong Regional Tournament and quarter finalist in NSDA Korea Open in 2016.

Scuba Diving

I got my scuba diving certificate in Oct. 2023. Diving had been on my bucket list for very long time. I truly enjoyed being in the ocean as the only voice I could hear was my breath, and I got to focus solely on my vision and the incredible blue world under water.
